Grounded Theory « Sociology Job Market Rumors

As a peer reviewer, when I encounter the phrase "grounded theory" in your manuscript (even if you dutifully cite Glaser and Strauss 1967!), I have no choice but to recommend that your paper be rejected.

I'm a qualitative sociologist and I have to say any time I read an article and come across the use of this phrase, my stink meter starts to bling. One can do systematic inductive analysis and modified inductive approaches without the wrapper of "grounded theory." Just say exactly the process by which you analyzed and coded your data. Appealing to this term implies you followed some sort of standardized analytic process that can be universally applied.
